I had a decent night's sleep. Despite vowing to sleep till 9am, Kanwar was also up by now. We started looking up at the blue skies and tried to guess which plane would be carrying the rest of our troupe. 7:30am: Jai and Niket arrived with their seemingly over-sized packs, just as we were headed down for breakfast. The proprietor's wife had prepared some fresh loaves of bread and also made us some yummy home-made omelets. The bread was almost like a small, fluffy naan. We also had some apricot jam and butter. Tea was almost always available at pretty much any time of the day. All along, I thought that all this was complimentary... how sadly mistaken I was (more on that later)! As I was wolfing down my omelet, Jai produced a little surprise for me from his backpack. Out of the blue, he showed me this pair of blue hiking poles. I looked at it... stunned. These poles had their own story, dating back to when Jai and I first met to climb Mt. Whitney (@ 14497ft, it's the tallest mountain in mainland USA) in California... more than 2 years back! I had bought these poles at a Walmart in Florida, and TSA had refused to let me take it as carry-on baggage because it looked like a weapon! So I ended up paying more than the cost of the poles, just to check it in. On the way ...
